What is Silmarillion Daily?
Reading the Quenta Silmarillion, it can be difficult to get a sense of the passage of time. Thinking of that, a small group of like-minded fans got together to take the chronologies given in The History of Middle-Earth and turn them into a series of emails that cover everything from the birth of Fëanor to the end of the First Age at the same pace the events happened, condensing almost a thousand years of events into a year-long newsletter.
When will it begin?
The Silmarillion was first published on September 15, 1977, and so we’ve chosen September 15, 2022 as our starting date. Accordingly, it will end on September 14, 2023. Late subscribers are welcome, and the previous emails can be found [[HERE]].
Throughout the year, we will cover every event between Y.T. 1169 and F.A. 590 which Tolkien has provided a definitive dates to. More information on the pacing will be sent on the welcome email.
Will we be reading the book?
For copyright reasons, we will not be sending the actual text of the book, and will instead only summarize the events as they happen. However, a suggested read-along schedule will be provided as we go, and subscribers are highly encouraged to follow along using their own editions! The welcome email will include details on how that will work.
